Farmers Market

  • BACKGROUND:
There is strong community support for a Farmers Market in Port Credit, as was shown at the well-attended public presentation by the Port Credit BIA on Oct. 27, 2008.  Parking issues are being addressed in a number of ways.  Click here for the meeting notice and proposed times of operation starting in June 2009.
  • This proposal went to the Committee of Adjustment re usage of the Elmwood Avenue parking lot on Saturday mornings (6:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.) on March 26, 2009.   Click here for the Notice.  The variance request was granted.  To view the letter of support written to the C. of A. by the groups of VIVA Port Credit, including TOPCA, click here.
  • The BIA will be ensuring that only direct growers participate.  This will be a high-quality open-air destination which people can walk to, while also having the opportunity for mainstreet shopping along Lakeshore Road.
  • LOCATION: 200 Lakeshore Road East beside the Port Credit LCBO
  • HOURS OF OPERATION: Every Saturday morning @ 7:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. from June through mid-October.
  • DOG POLICY: "We do not have a policy banning dogs from the market and will be welcoming dogs on leash.  In fact ... we have water bowls readily accessible!"  -- the BIA
  • COMMUNITY BOOTH: Community Groups/Charities can request a market space for fundraising, membership drives, or event marketing.  First come first serve basis.
    Fee:
    $35.00.
    Terms:
Groups must meet within Port Credit and/or host an event; Have a 'Not for Profit' or 'Charitable' status; Not be politically motivated.  Please book through Ellen Timms, PCBIA General Manager.
  • GRAND OPENING: Was it ever!  On June 13, 2009, according to John Cassan of the local Lions Club (which helped with parking control) approx. 2500 folks came through, many on foot or bike, and everything sold out early.  Farmers will bring bigger trucks next week!  In addition to this week's strawberries, breads, cheeses, honey, flowers and veggies, next week will have farm fresh eggs.  Also sold out: shopping bags ($2) and T-shirts ($10) but there will be more!  Click here for photos.
